NTLM: automatic logon does not work on Vista or Windows 7
Solution: By default Vista and Windows 7 only uses NTLMv2, this does not work in combination with the TOPdesk authentication mechanism. To make it work the security policy has to be adjusted.
Solution: By default Vista and Windows 7 only uses NTLMv2, this does not work in combination with the TOPdesk authentication mechanism. To make it work the security policy has to be adjusted. For example the Local security settings (in practice it is better to use a domain security policy): The 'Network security: LAN Manager verification level' has to be 'Only send an NTLM answer' (or on 'send one of two NT & LM answer). This setting can be found under Local policy > Security options. The following option can be used to make sure the work station uses NTLM after all, which enables automatic logon within TOPdesk: Click "Start --> Run" then, type in the Run field: "secpol.msc." That will bring you to the security policy system. Once there, use "Go to: Local Policies > Security Options" and then find "Network Security: LAN Manager" authentication level. Once there, change the Setting from "Send NTLMv2 response only" to "Send LM & NTLM -- use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated." Two other settings that might interfere with the automatic login are: - Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) clients - Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) servers Both these settings should be set to no minimum by unmarking all the checkboxes after doubleclicking. Note: These settings should be applied on the domain controller as well.
